Atkin's unique scalloped bracing configuration and super-thin aged lacquer finish result in a guitar that's surprisingly open and big-sounding (they've got a lot more oomph in the low end than you'd expect). This 12-fret L-36 is feather-light; and it boasts a fat, open sound that works well whether you're playing fingerstyle blues or using the guitar to accompany a voice. The modern C-shaped neck is super-playable, providing players who've shied away from vintage neck profiles a safe haven.

We also admire Atkin's embrace of a naturally aged finish. At the end of the day, what's more important -- being able to see your reflection in a guitar's finish, or being inspired by its sound when you pick it up? Vibe. Tone. Playability.
