Description

Beautiful-sounding 1930 Martin 00-40H ("H" for its original Hawaiian-style setup) just into the shop for consignment! New neck set and refret by luthier Stewart Port of Oakland, CA. All original finish (back of neck is matted down considerably), no cracks, and all-original parts. Original bridge and bridge plate (thin maple cap has been added to bridge plate). Nut measures 1 7/8" inches, with 24.9" SL and 2 5/16" string spacing. Gorgeous straight grained Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Red Spruce top and style-40 pearl inlay.

We have the guitar strung with .011-.052 Martin "Retro" strings, and it sounds divine. Perfectly balanced across the fingerboard, with a warm, dry voice. Like many 00s from this period, it's the ideal multi-use guitar: flatpicking, fingerpicking, vocal accompaniment -- there's no need for anything else. It's round and focused in the bass, dry in the midrange and punchy-but-fat in the high end. If you're looking for a great small-bodied vintage Martin with the coveted tone and condition, you'd be hard pressed to find a better guitar. Priced with contemporary Martin Geib-style hard case.
