Fender 1956 John Cruz Master Built Strat, Shoreline Gold / Tobacco Burst

The name John Cruz will perk up the ears of a Fender fanatic pretty quickly, and rightfully so. He's been with Fender since 1987 and in 2003 earned the title Master Builder. As if that weren't enough, he's done replicas of SRV's "Number One" Strat (check those out - they'll set you back a cool $50K), Jeff Beck's Esquire, John Mayer's Limited Black 1 Strat, and Gary Moore's '61 Fiesta Red Strat. Pretty amazing stuff, right?

This Master Built 1956 Strat, in a striking Robbie Robertson worthy Shoreline Gold / Tobacco Burst, is further evidence of John's passion for building highly customized guitars. The 5A Roasted Flame Maple neck is ridiculously beautiful, and the "Large C" carve feels awesome in hand. Chunky, but shaped perfectly so its never fatiguing - quite the opposite. This is one of the more comfortable necks we've played on in a long time. Sporting a 12" radius and 6100 frets, the playing feel is effortless.

The hand wound single coils deliver the sound of a mid 50s Strat, but with a touch more compression and slightly less twang and bite. They sound beautiful and really inspire - no anemic tones to be found here.

Condition: Very good with light signs of wear. There's a small ding on the back of the neck, though we didn't notice it while playing. There's light play wear scattered around the body, but clearly this guitar was well cared for. It was simply played and not stuck in a closet - a good thing in our book.

Strat lovers will certainly find a lot to love in this '56 Master Built guitar. The fact that one of Fender's masters put it together ups the mojo factor significantly in our book. Fantastic guitar! Priced with original hardshell case and all case candy.
