Phoenix Jazz Mandolin
Description
The Jazz is a relatively new design from Phoenix, and an instant classic, quickly leapfrogging most of our mando selection in popularity. Phoenix has come to be known for lightweight, very responsive mandolins; the Jazz epitomizes both, and is intended expressly for use with Thomastik Heavy flatwound strings. "Heavy" is misleading here. All Thomastiks are lower in tension than most standard strings, and, like a jazz guitar flatwound string, are rounder-sounding, mellower and smoother as well. While you can string up the Jazz with round wound strings, it's sound and feel will change dramatically. For most people, the Phoenix Jazz-Thomastik synergy is undeniable.
This Jazz Model is at once powerful and sweet. Great bass, clean midrange and exceedingly open trebles. Wonderful mando for almost any style of music: warm and woody for Celtic, world, fiddle tunes, classical, and of course jazz!
