Description

This rare, all original Gibson 5-string banjo dates to 1924.  It is often referred to as the "Trap-Door" model because of the early partially-hinged resonator design.  Built with a 26.5" scale and a 10.5" rim, the banjo has a sharp, clear and articulate sound without overtones.  If one is looking for the sound of Vess Osman, Fred Van Eps, or Charlie Poole, this is your holy grail.  Because of its rapid tone decay, this banjo would be excellent for playing jigs and reels.  Due to original pearl knobbed friction pegs, the peghead had a narrower design that integrates much better with the overall aesthetic of the banjo.  Similar models from this period are often equipped with geared side tuners, necessitating a wider peghead that is much less pleasing to the eye.  Other than the tuner shafts, all the bright work is silver plated. The banjo is in excellent condition with original shaped hard shell case.
