How could Collings possibly improve on their MF5? Add a stunningly clean, beautiful varnish finish. Beyond the slightly aged, vintage look to the binding, this instrument sounds more open and lively than its lacquer sibling, just from the opening notes. It is a truly powerful, versatile mandolin, amazing for a bluegrasser's heavy attack, and dynamic enough to respond sweetly to a lighter jazz / swing approach.

For this particular mando, they picked a classy, figured maple back to show off their varnish skills. Matching the beauty of the back is a master-grade Adirondack top and curly maple neck. A bound ebony pickguard extends gracefully below the treble strings. To complete this masterpiece, we opted for the nicest mandolin tuner available: gold-plated Waverlys; elegant and extremely smooth, they are functional works of art. It would be difficult to ask for more in a mandolin.
