Description

Asher has long-since established himself firmly as the man in modern electric lap steel guitars; a better-kept secret has been his fine acoustic lap steels. These are very true in weight and response to the original Weissenborns. Though they have good volume, I have heard louder Weissenborn copies out there. Few, though, can hold a candle to Asher's warm, three-dimensional, airy depth of tone.

Asher builds both traditional hourglass and the rarer teardrop shape acoustic (the latter inspired by a particular teardrop Weissenborn belonging to Ben Harper). Though Asher has made several teardrop models, this marks the first and only example of a Style 3 teardrop, referring to the rope binding and the inlay pattern. The lower bout measures a full 15-1/2", making for a large internal air volume. In short, this teardrop breathes. The sound is sublime. To show off the figured koa, Asher opted for a sublime, beautiful soft tobacco burst which is to die for. I never knew I'd love a burst on a Weissenborn, but love it I do.
