Bill Asher recently decided to add a deep-bodied Weissenborn-style hallowneck lap steel to his line, and this beautiful example is the first we've had in the shop. The deep-bodied Lap Style 1 has a 3 5/8" depth, and as opposed the traditional shallower depths, these deeper instruments are definitely louder and have more growl to them. Bill describes the effect as similar to the differences between a Dreadnought and an OM. The exciting thing is that with the deep body Asher has still maintained the sweetness and articulation of his shallower acoustic instruments. This deep bodied Style 1 is open and airy sounding, and certainly easy to get lost in!
